Karachi Police Chief to establish special force to curb street crime

Additional Inspector General Karachi Dr. Amir Shaikh has announced to establish special “Street Watch Force” to curb street crime in city, while he was addressing a gathering of business community at Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) on Wednesday.

On this occasion Patron in Chief of KATI SM Muneer, President Tariq Malik, CPLC chief Korangi & Malir Zubair Chhaya, Senator Abhul Haseeb Khan, head of KATI’s Standing committee on Law & order Nadeem Khan, SVP KATI Salman Aslam, VP Junaid Naqi also expressed their views.

City Polic Chief said that in recent month’s incidents of mobile snatching and motorcycle theft were on rise but to curb such criminal activities a comprehensive strategy has been mapped and a special “Street Watch Force”, consist on thousand 250cc motorbikes, will be established. He said that any citizen who provides helpful information to police will get cash rewards, starts from ten thousand rupees and will the reward amount will be increased according to importance and sensitivity of any such clue. He told the gathering that in his first meeting with CM Sindh , after his posting on the slot, he raised three important points such as revamping 15 response force, Completion of safe city project and establishment of a forensic lab in Karachi. “I am hopeful for positive developments” he added.

Prior to this Patron In chief of KATI SM Muneer said that city police chief were doing great efforts to improve “Thana Culture” in Karachi, business community was ready to support these efforts. President KATI Tariq Malik, in his welcome address, praised the efforts of Karachi police and briefed the AIG regarding Korangi Industrial Area. He said that the only way to get confidence of local and foreign investor is law enforcement. CPLC Chief Korangi & Malir and Chairman KITE Zubair Chhaya said that neighborhood community policing is one of the most effective tool to curb crime, it is functional in many areas of Korangi Industrial Area and should be expended to other parts of the city. Mr. Chaya said that that in certain part of the month , when usually working class withdraw their salary, rise in mugging and snatching have been noted, to restrict this crime a special strategy should be devised. Head of KATI law & order committee suggested measures to improve traffic fluency.

AIG Dr. Amir Shaikh told the gathering that among force of 36 thousands, he only found 165 officials with serious complains. He said that criminal elements among the police cadres will never allowed continuing. He announced that anyone can contact on Whats App no. Senior police officials, Former Presidents of KATI, Gulza rFeroze, Masood Naqi, Zahid Saeed, Farhan Ur rehman, Johar Qandhari and a large number of business communities were also present on the occasion.
