International survey reveals Pakistanis support actions to address climate change

An international survey by the Global Methane Hub across 17 countries found that 87% of Pakistanis support climate change action, with 51% expressing strong support. Notably, 80% back efforts to reduce methane emissions, including 44% who strongly support these measures.
Public awareness in Pakistan is high, with 96% believing in climate change and 71% attributing it to human activity. The top environmental concern is water quality (61%), followed by air quality (58%) and climate change (57%).
Dr. Naveed Arshad from LUMS emphasised that communities in Pakistan are experiencing severe climate impacts, with significant methane emissions linked to agriculture, waste, and ageing infrastructure. Most respondents blamed oil and gas companies and waste management corporations for environmental harm, while expressing strong support for reducing methane emissions across the energy (79%), agriculture (79%), and waste management (77%) sectors.
