Zubair Ghangra, Chairman of the Hyderabad SITE Association of Trade & Industry (HSATI), has emphasised that the small and medium industrial enterprises (SMEs) in Hyderabad SITE are a vital pillar of Pakistan’s economy. These industries contribute significantly to the national GDP, provide employment to thousands in non-agricultural sectors, and play an active role in exports. Their production and commercial activities are critical for the country’s economic growth. However, despite their importance, these enterprises have not received the same policy support, basic facilities, and financial assistance as industrial zones in Karachi.
Mr. Ghangra highlighted that Hyderabad SITE industries continue to face multiple challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, deteriorating roads, limited power supply, insufficient water and gas availability, and security concerns, particularly during nighttime. These constraints have negatively affected industrial production, increased transportation costs, and impacted export performance.
He further noted that the Government of Sindh has approved a development package of PKR 9.28 billion for Karachi industrial zones, covering infrastructure repair, road development, drainage systems, power supply, and other essential facilities. However, Hyderabad SITE has not received equivalent attention, and the approved funding of PKR 1.1 billion for the zone has not yet been disbursed. As a result, local industrialists continue to face operational difficulties, leading to higher business costs and reduced efficiency.
Mr. Ghangra urged both the Sindh and Federal governments to extend equal policy support and facilities to Hyderabad SITE industries, similar to those provided in Karachi. He emphasized that this should include provision of basic utilities, immediate resolution of power and water issues, enhanced security arrangements, and access to financial and technical assistance. According to him, timely implementation of these measures would not only increase industrial productivity but also create employment opportunities and significantly boost national exports.
He added that Hyderabad SITE industries are fully prepared to cooperate with the government on ongoing industrial projects, including digitalization and infrastructure upgrades, but stressed that industrial growth cannot be fully realized without equal policy support.
Mr. Ghangra concluded by stating that the Hyderabad SITE Association of Trade & Industry represents all industrial units in the zone and is actively working with the government to promote industrial development, ensure business welfare, and strengthen the economic prospects of Hyderabad’s industrial sector.
