President of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry, Muhammad Saleem Memon, emphasized that without relief for small traders and SMEs in the upcoming 2026-27 budget, a crisis looms for businesses nationwide. He criticized the current tax burdens and urged the government to simplify the tax system, reduce withholding taxes, and provide incentives for traders to join the documentary economy.
Memon highlighted the impact of rising electricity tariffs and petroleum prices on small industries in Hyderabad, particularly in textiles and handicrafts, warning that many businesses risk closing. He called for a special electricity relief package and measures to stabilize fuel prices to support local industries.
Additionally, he urged the government and the State Bank of Pakistan to introduce low-markup financing for SMEs, young entrepreneurs, and cottage industries, emphasizing the need for incentives, easy loans, and export facilities to revitalize traditional industries. He stated that sustainable economic development relies on strengthening small industrialists and that the revival of SMEs should be a priority in the upcoming budget.
