Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Pakistan has started a campaign of plantation to make the city of Karachi cool and pollution free on World Environment Day – June 5, 2018 by planting trees of Neem, which has medicinal properties, at its headquarters – Al-Majeed, Hamdard Centre, Nazimabad, Karachi by its Managing Director and CEO, Usama Qureshi; Chairman, Karachi Central District Council, Rehan Qureshi; Director General, Hamdard Foundation, Farruk hI mdad, Hamdard’s Director of Research and Development, Prof. Dr. Hakim Abdul Hannan; Director Finance, Abdul Wasim Qureshi; Director, IT, Hasnain Eqbal and Dy. Director Trade, Jamil Akhtar.
Talking to media representatives on the occasion Mr. Usama Qureshi, Managing Director and CEO, Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) said that Hamdard was launching a campaign of plantation today on World Environment Day in order to contribute to the task of saving the country from the bad affects of climate change, a threat to our homeland. In this campaign we have the support of Rehan Hashmi, Chairman, Karachi Central District Municipal Council and intended to do plantation in whole central distirict, he added.
‘We want to make this area green as Hamdard keeps its places green, e.g. Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said had established the Madinat al-Hikmah, a city of education, science and culture ina desert on the border of Sindh and Balochistan, but made it a lush green area by planting trees, establishing orchard and botanical garden. So spreading of greenery is Hamdard’s tradition and we shall further promote it,’ he maintained.
He said, earlier people, while making their houses, would leave some space for plantation, but now they became more commercial and left no space for this purpose and covered all the area, whereas trees were very useful things, they not only provided Oxygen to us, but also gave relief to us from hot weather by cooling down the atmosphere.
The reasons of heat waves, hot weather and maximum temperature in Karachi were urbanization and for that trees in the city have been brutally cut down and in this criminal act even the oldest trees were not spared, he said, adding that cutting the tress was a crime and an outrage, done by us against us as we all would suffer if there would be no trees.
