Govt to assist overseas Pakistanis in the Gulf with domestic payment scheme: Rana Mashhood

The federal government aims to assist overseas Pakistanis, particularly youth in Gulf countries, by introducing a technological solution for easier remittance transfers to families through a domestic payment scheme. Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Prime Minister Youth Programme (PMYP), expressed this in a recent Karachi meeting with stakeholders, including Ibrahim Amin of PAFLA and Najeeb Agrawalla, CEO of 1LINK.

The government is focused on addressing the needs of both local and overseas Pakistanis with innovative solutions. The PM Digital Youth Hub is exploring options to support the contributions of youth overseas, emphasizing their importance to the economy. Agrawalla highlighted initiatives to facilitate secure remittance flows from non-resident workers, especially in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, including promoting PayPak for Hajj and Umrah transactions.

Ibrahim Amin pointed out that over 4 million Pakistanis in the Gulf often lack reliable payment solutions. PAFLA, in collaboration with diplomatic missions and banks, aims to engage these workers effectively. In the financial year 2024-25, Pakistan received over $38.3 billion in remittances, with a significant portion from Gulf countries.
