Gas leaks can cause serious accidents, Malik Khuda Bakhsh

Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Convener of the Standing Committee on Energy of the FPCCI, warned that gas leakages pose serious risks to lives and property. He highlighted the importance of safety measures and smart LPG monitoring devices to prevent accidents during a meeting attended by various committee members.

Bakhsh noted a potential easing of tensions between Iran and the U.S., crediting Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif for their roles in reducing conflict. He emphasized the necessity of LPG and Electric Vehicles (EVs) in modern life, advocating for a comprehensive monitoring system to track gas consumption and detect leaks.

He urged the government to maintain a 10 percent tax on solar equipment instead of the proposed 18 percent to support affordable energy options. Bakhsh also called for expanding the tax base rather than burdening current taxpayers to avoid business closures and revenue loss.

Mutahir Salam discussed a new LPG monitoring and leakage-detection system that uses sensors to quickly detect leaks and notify users. This system features a load cell to track gas levels and send alerts for timely cylinder replacements. Ali Haider pointed out that poor maintenance and public awareness contribute to leaks, stressing the system’s role in enhancing safety and efficiency at LPG retail stations.
