Former Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and ex‑Chairman of the Pakistan Ship Agents Association, Tariq Haleem, has said the anticipated election of S.M. Tanveer as FPCCI President in Dec 2026 would mark a significant development for Pakistan’s business community. He noted that under Tanveer’s leadership, the Federation’s standards, credibility, and effectiveness would strengthen, enabling industrialists, traders, exporters, and investors to convey their concerns more effectively to government circles.
Haleem highlighted Tanveer’s extensive experience in industry and trade, his understanding of business challenges, and his awareness of Pakistan’s economic difficulties. He recalled Tanveer’s stance against Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which yielded positive results, and expressed confidence that his leadership would transform FPCCI into a more active, empowered, and result‑oriented institution.
He stressed that the government must recognise FPCCI’s representative status and take its proposals seriously when making economic decisions. He said Pakistan’s economy faces pressing challenges: accelerating industrial growth, boosting exports, attracting investment, ensuring affordable energy, improving taxation, and reducing the cost of doing business. These can be addressed only through mutual trust and coordinated strategies between the government and the private sector.
Haleem underscored the importance of policy continuity, competitive energy prices, and tax transparency to attract investment. He urged the government to avoid frequent policy shifts that create uncertainty and instead foster conditions for long‑term industrial planning, increased production, and job creation.
