The Karachi Editors Club (KEC), in collaboration with DHA Suffa University (DSU), recently organised an awareness session on “Financial Literacy, Voluntary Pension System (VPS) and Retirement Planning” to promote financial awareness and long-term savings among journalists, editors and media professionals.
The session brought together leading experts from the financial sector, who emphasised the importance of retirement planning, voluntary pension schemes, tax incentives, investment opportunities, risk management and long-term financial security.
Banking Mohtasib Pakistan, Sirajuddin Aziz, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Sharing his personal experiences, he emphasised that saving is not merely a financial habit but a necessity for a secure and dignified future. He urged media professionals to adopt a culture of regular saving and prudent investment to ensure financial stability after retirement.
Addressing the participants, Zeeshan Qudoos of UBL Funds, Talha Anwer, Country Head of Al Meezan Investment, and Abid Rizvi of HBL Asset Management, provided valuable insights into investment planning and the role of asset management companies in mobilising savings and helping individuals create sustainable retirement income through the Voluntary Pension System.
The speakers explained that VPS offers an effective avenue for long-term wealth creation, tax benefits and financial independence after retirement. They stressed that early financial planning and disciplined saving can significantly improve quality of life in later years.
The session was moderated by renowned anchorperson Wajeeha Najam and well organised by Dr Samreen Bari Amir, Head of the H&SS Department at DHA Suffa University.
Speaking on the occasion, Mubasher Mir, President, KEC, noted that despite economic challenges and rising living costs, saving for the future has become more important than ever.
“While current financial conditions make saving difficult, it is no longer an option but a necessity for survival and long-term security,” he said.
Manzar Naqvi, Editor of The Financial Daily and Secretary General of KEC, highlighted the vital role of financial institutions in promoting savings and informed investment decisions. He said that investors should always consider three fundamental principles before making any investment: security of capital, liquidity of funds and profitability.
The participants appreciated the initiative and termed it a timely effort to enhance financial literacy among media professionals, encouraging them to plan effectively for a financially secure future.
