Finally, buses arrived for the Green line BRT project in Karachi

On the arrival of the first Batch of 40 buses for GREEN LINE, the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives (MoPDSI) and Sindh Infrastructure Development Co. Ltd. (SIDCL) have arranged a colorful event at KPT EAST WHARF KEMARI on Sept 19. The ceremony will likely be addressed/attended by Mr. Imran Ismail, Governor of Sind, Asad Umar Federal Minister for Planning, and Ali Hyder Zaidi Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs & Amin Ul Haq Minister for IT & Telecom and top officials of government.

These buses would be used in Greenline BRT project.

The Green Line is a bus rapid transit line under construction in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, since February 2016. The 21 km (13.0 mi) busway is the first phase of the Karachi Metrobus network and will have 22 stations (A station after every km). The Greenline will have a fleet of 80 buses operated by Daewoo. It is expected to be functional by October 2021.

The work on the Rs24 billion federal-funded project — conceived by the previous PML-N government — had started in February 2016 and was scheduled to finish before the general election in July 2018.

It is pertinent to mention here that on completion, Greenline will only cover one stretch of the city between North Karachi and Merewether Tower.

The Green Line is just one component of ‘Karachi Breeze’ — a project that comprises four more bus lines and promises a comprehensive transport solution in the city.
