Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh paid a visit to Port Qasim Authority (PQA) and laid the foundation for the Sports Complex, Water Filtration Plant and Boundry wall at the Gulshan e Benazir Township Port Qasim Karachi on 09th January 2025.
PQA Chairman Syed Moazzam Ilyas HI and other port officials warmly received the Minister. He briefly discussed the Sports Complex, which will be built on 9.06 acres and comprise a Cricket stadium, swimming pool, and other indoor games. The complex will have a seating capacity of 6,000 spectators and will serve as the second-biggest sports arena in the city.
Addressing the media, residents, and port officials, the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs congratulated the PQA team, Rashid Latif, Shadab Kabir, and another sportsman for making this project possible. He said that projects like Sports in our country are neglected subjects that must be addressed. Projects like this will keep our society healthy and serve as a nursery for future athletes. As a sportsman, the Minister delightedly attended all the project briefings and directed the PQA officials to make plans for the hockey stadium.
During his visit to PQA, he appreciated the agency’s role in achieving revenue targets and contributing to national prosperity. He pressed PQA to do more to strengthen the country.
In response to a query, the minister said that Pakistan has great potential, but it has yet to be unlocked. Pakistan can be a gateway for Central Asian Countries. However, we are still developing, and despite the larger container capacity, he added that Pakistan gets fewer containers per annum. He also mentioned the cabinet’s decision to import 60 public imports through Balochistan to mobilize ports.
He also integrated the International Cargo Terminals Pakistan Ltd (ICT) facility at Port Qasim. When he spoke to the delegation from Denmark and other countries, the Minister appreciated the facility’s opening and underscored Pakistan’s warm waters’ potential for regional and international trade.
