Faraz-ur-Rehman, Former Chairman of KATI and Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Business Group, praised the recent initiatives of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) under the direction of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He particularly appreciated the Chairman of the FBR’s proposal to eliminate the term “non-filer” from the tax ordinance, calling it a crucial step in the fight against tax evasion.
Faraz-ur-Rehman stated that targeting non-filers has been a long-standing demand, as it lays the groundwork for tackling tax evasion and addressing issues related to undeclared properties.
He further emphasized the importance of bringing the agriculture sector under the tax net. He pointed out that while large agricultural producers continue to receive subsidies, it is essential to hold them accountable and ensure that goods are provided to the market at fair prices to ease the burden on the common man. He also urged swift action against the mafias in vegetable markets who manipulate prices, causing significant hardship for the public.
Additionally, Faraz-ur-Rehman highlighted the need to address property-related tax matters and acknowledged the government’s serious efforts in resolving these issues. He stressed the importance of transparency and efficiency through third-party audits of FBR’s projects, particularly in curbing smuggling and improving customs duty enforcement.
