Mian Zahid Hussain, President of the Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, has raised alarms about rising LPG prices, which have soared to Rs500–600 per kilogram in various markets, far above OGRA’s October rate of Rs279.34. He attributed this disparity to supply-chain disruptions and rising import costs, stressing that the ongoing geopolitical crisis complicates the situation.
The notified LPG price increased by about 8 percent from September, while market prices are 79-114.8 percent higher. This inflation means consumers pay Rs2,600–3,800 more for a domestic cylinder. Limited domestic supply and reliance on imports, which make up 67 percent of total LPG availability, were also concerns, exacerbated by trade suspensions and regional conflicts.
Hussain called for better regulatory oversight and coordination among relevant authorities to ensure a stable supply and fair pricing. He emphasized the need for a coordinated winter supply plan that ensures energy affordability for consumers while addressing potential inflation and its impact on small businesses.
