Sports & Youth Affairs Department Government of Sindh & Youth Parliament organized opening ceremony of the, recently at Marriott Hotel, Karachi to divert the attention of youth and stake holders towards the most significant global issue and to motivate them to take serious steps to fight Climate Change.

Welcoming the guests Chairman Youth Parliament Rizwan Jaffar said: “Climate Change poses greater security threat then terrorism. We have to be serious and take meaningful action to reduce climate change. Therefore, to educate and create awareness on Climate Change we are organizing one week program on Climate Change from 18th March, 2019 to 22nd March, 2019 nationwide”.

Fakhar Ahmed (Chief Marketing & Communication Officer) K-Electric discussed the reasons and solutions of climate change. He also said that we should decrease the use of fossil fuels and turn our attention to renewable energy measures such as wind energy, solar energy and hydroelectricity, instead of the electricity generated from coal to control the gases that heat up the atmosphere. Trees and forests should be saved and more plantations should be done.

During his speech Akhtar Hussain Bugti ((Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs – Government of Sindh) said: “Global warming and climate change issues are perhaps the greatest threat to this planet but unfortunately not taken seriously. The opening ceremony of COY Pakistan was attended by environmental experts, journalists, social activists, politicians, stake holders, decision makers and large number of youth from across Sindh. The conference included video presentations on climate change, guest speeches, youth dialogue and a very informative panel discussion with expert panelist forum comprising of Akhter Hussain Bugti, Waqar Hussain Phulpoto (Director Head Quarter SEPA), Rafiul Haq (Environmental Expert), Saqib Ejaz (Environmental Expert) & Ms. Abbasi. Opening ceremony ended with awards distribution and musical performance.
