Commissioner emphasized the role of private sector to improve city’s administration

Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani has emphasized on Public-Private partnership for the improvement of administration in Karachi, while addressing to meeting held by Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) here on Monday. Patron in Chief of KATI SM Muneer, President Danish Khan, Chairman & CEO KITE Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice President Faraz-ur-Rehman, Vice President Maheen Salman and Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan welcomed the commissioner while former presidents of KATI , Farhan-ur-Rehman, FarukhMazhar , Rashid Siddiqui, Ehtesham Uddin, SM Yahya and Deputy Commissioner Korangi Qurat-ul-Ain Memon also attended the meeting.

The Commissioner said that there is a lot of opportunities for Public-Private Partnership to improve performance of civic agencies and he overwhelmingly welcomes the idea. He told that Tram Service will be restored for tourism purpose in Karachi’s sadder area almost on thousand meters area. He also applauded the courage of business community and exporters for showing resilience despite infrastructural problems and hurdles and continues their business in troublesome situation of the city and country. Mr. Shallwani said that there is a lot of confusion over legal responsibility and authority of several department and institution, responsible for administration in Karachi.

He told that initially he had brought all the departments and authorities on a table to make a liaison amongst them.

Patron in Chief KATI SM Muneer said that in a meeting the PM Imran Khan assured him that economic condition would become batter soon. He urged that all section of society should stand firm with the government for the betterment of country. SM Muneer said that performance of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) was gravely disappointing. “let the board privatized and give to the businessmen , we would show how this works efficiently” he said. Muneer noted that operation against encroachments is appreciable but government should take resident areas, settled since four to five decades, as a different case and first assure them alternative residence before any action. “otherwise the situation could become troublesome for whole of the city.” he showed the concern.

President of KATI Danish Khan told the commissioner that due to basic utility issues industry was facing challenges of high cost of production and lowering industrial capacity. He said that the only way to stable economy is to boost exports but many apparently tiny mis managements causing great challenges for country’s economy. He also expressed his concern over disconnection of gas to captive power plants. He told that KATI is working on “Green Korangi” project and hundreds of thousand trees will be planted in the area to reduce carbon footprint. Danish Khan also paid tribute to the martyrs of Sindh Police sacrificed their live during a fight against terrorist attacked Chinese Embassy. ZubairChhaya and Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan also gave some suggestion to make ongoing anti encroachment drive more efficient and result oriented.
