Managing Director of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Imran Manyar, announced that new high-pressure gas lines have been installed for Korangi and other industrial areas in Karachi to enhance gas supply and improve production capacity for industrial users. He stated that this development aims to provide industries with consistent and reliable gas pressure, enabling them to operate optimally. However, he also noted that Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) consumption is higher in Punjab than in Sindh, leading to lower RLNG prices.
Manyar shared these updates while addressing a farewell lunch hosted in his honour by the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI).
At the event, KATI President Johar Qandhari, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice President Nighat Awan, Vice President Muslim Mohammadi, Standing Committee Chairman Ehteshamuddin, and several other prominent KATI members were present, alongside SSGC officials, including Deputy Manager Syed Saeed Rizvi, General Manager Mohammad Riaz, and Regional Head Azim Khan.
Manyar expressed his gratitude to the industrialists and KATI members for their ongoing cooperation with SSGC, highlighting the positive changes the company has undergone during his tenure.
KATI President Johar Qandhari praised Manyar for his revolutionary changes in SSGC, which significantly improved the company’s performance, financial stability, and overall growth. He commended the MD for spearheading new alternative energy projects that contributed to the company’s income generation. Qandhari also lauded the installation of new high-pressure gas lines, particularly for Korangi, under Manyar’s leadership, which has improved gas supply to Karachi’s industrial hubs.
Additionally, Qandhari noted that under Manyar’s tenure, gas theft, also known as Unaccounted-for Gas (UFG), was reduced by 56%—the lowest in the past 20 years. He further mentioned that investments in the sector have surged from PKR 9 billion to PKR 25 billion, with projections to reach PKR 40 billion next year.
Zubair Chhaya, KATI’s Deputy Patron-in-Chief, emphasized that strong collaboration between KATI and SSGC has helped resolve many industrial challenges. However, he pointed out the disparity in gas prices between Punjab and Sindh, stating that cheaper gas in Punjab creates an uneven competitive environment for Sindh’s industries.
Ehteshamuddin, Chairman of KATI’s Standing Committee, raised concerns about the Gas Supply Deposit (GSD) imposed by SSGC, which has caused issues for consumers. He urged the company to raise consumer awareness to address this problem effectively.
