Bangladesh’s Chattogram Port achieves record container volume in FY25

Chattogram Port, Bangladesh’s primary seaport, has set a new record by handling the highest number of containers in the 2024-25 fiscal year (FY), according to port officials. This achievement is attributed to the expansion of jetty and yard facilities, which have significantly improved container, cargo, and ship-handling operations.

Additionally, in the first three months of FY26 (July to September), Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL), under the management of the Bangladesh Navy, processed 342,649 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT). This represents a 41,754 TEU increase over the same period last fiscal year, equating to a 13.88% growth in container handling. During this timeframe, 178 ships were managed at NCT, which is 26 more than the previous year, reflecting a 17.11% increase. These figures represent the highest volumes ever recorded at the terminal.

Overall, Chattogram Port handled 927,713 TEUs of containers in the first quarter of FY26, which is 101,185 TEUs more than in the same period last year, resulting in a growth rate of 12.24%. Cargo handling reached 32.92 million tonnes, and 1,031 ships were processed, marking increases of 13.88% and 9.22%, respectively, compared to the previous year.

Port officials have credited this record performance to infrastructure development, enhanced operational efficiency, and improved logistics management. (Sources: local media)
