Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), in collaboration with ITCN Asia and UNIDO ITPO, have announced the upcoming international conference “AgriTech – Feeding the Future” on August 28, 2024, at the Expo Centre Karachi.
According to Zubair Tufail, Advisor to ICCD from Pakistan, this conference is part of the Best of Entrepreneurship Asia Series, which aims to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and regional trade & investment in the priority sectors: Sustainable Agriculture, Sustainable Tourism & Invest in Digital Economy. The first event will focus on food security & agriculture development and its potential to transform the industry through tech. He added that food insecurity remains a crucial challenge faced by many developing countries, particularly Islamic countries, due to income inequality, economic instability, climate change, conflict and unemployment. Globally, there is sufficient food production, but the issues are inaccessibility, unaffordability, instability and inadequate utilization of resources. Hence, the improvement in the supply chain, post-harvest management, storage and logistics needs to be addressed, and ICCD & FPCCI are committed to contributing actively.
The conference will bring together business leaders from many countries, including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan, to discuss agri-tech solutions for sustainable agricultural development. The event promises to foster collaboration, B2B opportunities, and regional business growth *to cater for the growing demand for food and commodities.
The conference’s objectives include promoting investment in agriculture, improving productivity, enhancing trade, and creating climate financing through Islamic banking systems. Participants will be able to gain advanced knowledge from international experts, network with stakeholders, and explore business opportunities.
Mr Zubair Tufail appreciated the initiatives of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce & Development to promote foreign investment and entrepreneurship in Pakistan. He added that FPCCI strongly supports and is a strategic partner for this series by ICCD, an apex trade body and sole representative of the private sector of OIC, representing 57 countries and 8 observer countries. He advised Pakistani businessmen and stakeholders to come forward and participate in the August event.
