AAS-in-Asia 2026 wrapped up on Sunday at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), drawing over 1,000 scholars from 37 countries for a three-day international conference centered on the theme “Centering Asia: Refiguring Connections, Recharting Futures.” Participants from 517 institutions, including renowned universities like Harvard and Oxford, engaged in numerous panel sessions, workshops, and cultural events.

Topics discussed included Asia’s economic and cultural transformations, conflict and cooperation, technology and society, and social justice. LUMS Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Cheema emphasized Pakistan’s role in global academic conversations, while Association for Asian Studies President Prof. Elora Shehabuddin celebrated the diverse participation, with over 900 attendees present.

Keynote speaker Dr. Adil Najam highlighted the critical implications of climate change beyond environmental concerns, addressing its impact on various sectors. The program promoted collaboration among scholars, particularly early-career academics, and included cultural activities showcasing Lahore’s rich heritage through performances and workshops.

The conference concluded with a vibrant cultural program that featured South Asia’s dance traditions, celebrating the region’s diversity and cultural heritage.
