A national incentive program to promote New Energy Vehicles in Pakistan

Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Convener of the Energy Committee of the FPCCI and Chairman of Malik Group, has praised the federal government’s launch of a national incentive program to promote New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in Pakistan. He believes this initiative will significantly boost the country’s electric vehicle (EV) and electric motorbike industry.

Khuda Bakhsh noted that foreign investors are regaining confidence in Pakistan, and the new incentive program aims to accelerate local EV manufacturing and raise awareness of necessary policy measures and support mechanisms. The Malik Group has already begun investing in NEVs and plans to establish EV manufacturing plants and charging infrastructure nationwide.

He expressed optimism that EV adoption would exceed 30% by 2030 and highlighted a Chinese collaboration for establishing a plant in Punjab for small electric vehicles. Malik emphasized the economic significance of EV adoption, noting that Pakistan currently imports over 20% of its fuel. Promoting NEVs would reduce reliance on imported fuels and lower urban air pollution.

ADN Group is preparing to invest $240 million in Pakistan’s EV ecosystem, including 3,000 charging stations nationwide, beginning with three locations in Karachi. These sites have received approval from Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, and the Sindh Energy Minister has expressed strong support for the initiative. Malik Khuda Bakhsh announced that 1,000 charging stations will be operational in the first phase, paving the way for local manufacturing of electric vehicles.
