On World Book Day and the death anniversary of Allama Iqbal, the Society for Promotion of Reading and Improvement of Libraries (SPRIL) held an international seminar at the Russia Center Karachi. The chief guests included renowned poetess Professor Dr Tanveer Anjum and prominent journalist Ikhlaq Ahmed, with Ruslan Prokhorov, Director of the Russia Centre, serving as the guest of honour.
Participants who spoke included SPRIL representatives Rabia Ali Fareedi, Jawahir Aleem, Sameem Kardar, and international librarians Loida Garcia Febo and Dr. Collence T. Chisita. Rabia Ali Fareedi mentioned SPRIL’s plans to organise future programs to emphasise the importance of libraries and reading.
Ruslan Prokhorov noted the strong literary ties between Russia and Pakistan, highlighting how promoting books and translations can foster understanding between the two nations. At the end of the event, Prokhorov presented shields to Professor Dr. Tanveer Anjum and Ikhlaq Ahmed, expressing gratitude to all participants.
