Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has reported a notable rise in transhipment container handling at private terminals since March 1, indicating the port’s expanding role in regional logistics.
Official data shows that 8,313 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) were processed across three private terminals during this period. South Asia Pakistan Terminals (SAPTL) handled the most TEUs, with 5,286, followed by Hutchison Ports KICT with 1,827, and Karachi Gateway Terminal Multipurpose (Private) Limited with 1,200.
Additionally, the Federal Board of Revenue has taken steps to ease pressure on Pakistan’s seaborne supply chains by revising transhipment procedures and providing a large temporary storage area at Port Qasim in response to security disruptions in the Gulf region.
