SSGC achieves notable prosecution success against gas thieves

Under its aggressively executed anti-gas theft program, entitled Operation Grifth, SSGC’s Counter Gas Theft Operations (CGTO) department, along with the Customer Relations Department (CRD), the Distribution department, and SSGC Police, routinely conducts extensive raids against gas thieves.

Over the past two weeks, this operation has been aggressively executed in multiple areas of Karachi to apprehend members of the gas thief mafia. Subsequently, the cases arising from these raids are being litigated in the respective courts of law.

Due to the untiring efforts of the litigation section of CGTO, SSGC recently achieved a remarkable prosecution success after meticulously pleading various theft cases in gas utility courts. As a result of these efforts, under the Gas Theft and Recovery Act 2016, the Honourable Gas Utility Court, Karachi Division, dismissed the bail applications of a few individuals involved in gas theft cases. This included the main culprit, Allah Wadhayo, whose bail application was rejected in five separate cases. He was caught supplying gas to five areas across Karachi, affecting 1,500 houses, 1,200 houses, 1,000 houses, 550 houses, and 500 houses, respectively, located in different localities. Allah Wadhayo, along with his partners in crime, namely Wajid Ali, Khan Mohammad, Ali Nawaz, and Ghulam Qadir, were unwilling to pay the quantum of loss, which has accumulated against their cases to Rs. 5,133,592,300/-.

In another case, the culprit, Humayun Bashir, had his pre-arrest bail application dismissed by the court, as he was found guilty of tampering with the gas meter to run the Blessing Flour and Steel Mill. He was taken into custody by SSGC Police and was sent to prison. The quantum of loss that will be recovered in this case amounts to Rs. 613,449,300/-.

Gas theft is a serious crime against society, and SSGC will continue to strive towards a gas theft-free community. Aggressive prosecution will continue against all those involved in this crime.
