Jazz is spearheading the development of Pakistan’s first indigenous Large Language Model (LLM) in collaboration with NUST and the National Information Technology Board (NITB). This private-sector initiative addresses the gap in AI-ready data for local languages and is currently in the foundational phase of data collection and processing. As the project moves to fine-tuning and deployment, diverse stakeholders from various sectors are expected to contribute.
The partnership leverages Jazz’s technical expertise and industry experience alongside NUST’s research capabilities. With oversight from NITB and input from a Joint Strategic Steering Committee, the project is designed to be transparent and nationally relevant. Jazz is also an active member of the Planning Ministry’s AI Task Force, engaging other institutions to bolster this effort.
In 2024, Jazz formed an AI Coalition to foster collaboration among industry and academia, and recently hosted a workshop with UNESCO focused on ethical and inclusive AI. Committed to inclusivity and collaboration, Jazz aims to elevate this LLM initiative into a national platform for AI innovation that benefits all stakeholders.
Through this project, Jazz seeks to harness technology to transform lives and enhance livelihoods, laying a foundation for an AI future that is relevant, ethical, and inclusive, embodying the belief that Pakistan’s progress relies on collaborative innovation.
