Secretary Communications visits Lyari Expressway and Sehwan-Dadu section of Indus Highway

In line with vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Imran Khan and following the directives of Federal Minister for Communications & Postal Services Mr. Murad Saeed, Federal Secretary Communications
Mr. Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui paid detailed visit to Lyari Expressway and Sehwan-Dadu section of Indus Highway, where detailed briefings were given regarding ongoing improvement works there.

Expressing views, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui said, installation of tyre killers on entrance points on south bound of Lyari Expressway is imperative to avoid one way violations. Besides, installation of sheets on road edges around populous localities to avoid pedestrian crossing and throwing of garbage on Lyari Expressway also required. It was told that currently garbage from Lyari Expressway is being removed on regular basis under routine maintenance contract. Secretary Communications further said, old and damaged cat eyes which were leading to tyre burst have been replaced, and that documentary work in being completed for installation of light poles. He said, lane marking on south bound is already available while it has currently been carried out on North bound track. Presently, he said, 4 lanes are available in Maripur Toll Plaza which are kept operational. Further options for easing congestion during peak hours are being explored in consultation with National Highways and Motorway Police. He said traffic has sufficiently been encouraged and using the Lyari Expressway. Secretary Communications informed that NHA officers pay regular visits to monitor the ongoing works.

Mr. Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui also visited Sehwan-Dadu section of Indus Highway. It was told in a briefing that dangerous curves, steep and sharp turn, none observance of speed limit and lack of warning and road sings, lead to accidents. It was apprised that stone masonry walls have been constructed on the edge of sharp curves and that warning and road signs have been installed as safety measures. Secretary Communications directed to undertake pragmatic steps for making journey safe and sound on this section of Indus Highway.
