Bangladesh leather exports translate a growth of 30.951% on a YoY basis in 9MFY22

The Bangladesh leather industry has earned export revenue of US$896.8 million between July 2021 and March 2022, of the ongoing fiscal year 2021-22, compared to $684.84 million earned in the same nine months of the previous fiscal year. It translates to a growth of 30.951% on a YoY basis, according to the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). The target for this period was also surpassed by 16.07%.

The breakdown shows that Bangladesh received $115.82 million on exports of finished leather between July and March 2022 compared to $83.28 million in the same period last year, which shows a growth of 39.07%. The target for this period was also surpassed by 18.44%.

The exports of leather products have also expanded to $242 million during these nine months from the $180.04 million of the same months of last year. It translates to an incline of 34.41 on a YoY basis. The target for this period was also surpassed by 15.13%.

On a more positive development, the leather footwear exports grew 27.86% to $538.98 million in Jul – March 2022 from $421.53 million in the previous fiscal year. The target for this period was also surpassed by 16%.

The Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) set the leather industry’s export target at $1.031 billion for 2021-22 (July – June) compared to the $941.67 million earned in the previous fiscal year. The government plans to boost the country’s export of leather and leather goods to $12 billion by 2030.
