Workers’ remittances surge in May 2025: SBP

In May 2025, workers’ remittances experienced a significant inflow of $3.7 billion, marking a robust increase in financial contributions from overseas. According to the latest report, remittances grew by 16.0% on a month-over-month basis and 13.7% year-over-year. This upward trend reflects the strengthening ties and economic exchanges between migrant workers and their home countries.

Cumulatively, during the period from July to May of the fiscal year 2025, workers’ remittances totalled $34.9 billion. This represents a remarkable 28.8% increase compared to the $27.1 billion received during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

The main sources of remittance inflows in May 2025 were Saudi Arabia, contributing $913.9 million; the United Arab Emirates, at $754.2 million; the United Kingdom, at $588.1 million; and the United States, at $314.7 million. These figures underscore the vital role of remittances in supporting families and communities back home, highlighting their significance to the national economy.
