SITE President seeks NUST’s support in highlighting industry issues

A team from NUST, Islamabad, led by Rabia Abbas Malik (Lead Advancement) and comprising Abeera Atif (Lead Projects) and Ameer Hamza (Lead Alumni Relations), visited NUST ICON at SITE Association of Industry and discussed fundraising for deserving NUST students.

During the meeting, the NUST representatives mentioned that philanthropists in Karachi contribute nearly 51% of the required funds for scholarships for deserving students, the largest share in the country. This reflects the sincerity of the people of Karachi, particularly the business community, in helping to improve education and healthcare facilities, making them more accessible to the underprivileged.

On this occasion, Ahmed Azeem Alvi, President of the SITE Association of Industry, acknowledged NUST’s efforts to provide free higher education to deserving students based purely on merit. Taking advantage of the NUST team’s presence, the SITE President requested their support in voicing the issues faced by industries in the SITE area and Karachi more broadly before the influential corridors of Islamabad. He remarked that Karachi has been severely neglected for many years and requires immediate attention from those in power, as well as its due share of resources. The city, particularly the industrial areas, lacks proper infrastructure, which must be prioritized for development.

While appreciating NUST’s contribution to the higher education sector, Chief Coordinator Saleem Parekh assured the NUST team of full support and cooperation from the SITE Association of Industry.

In response to a query from VP Muhammad Riaz Dhedhi regarding educational expenses per student, the NUST representative informed that the current cost of higher education per student is approximately 17 lac rupees for four years. NUST receives thousands of applications annually, and around 2,800 students are on the waiting list for scholarship approval.

On this occasion, SVP Khalid Riaz, VP Muhammad Riaz Dhedhi, Immediate Past President Muhammad Kamran Arbi, Former VP Muhammad Farhan Ashrafi (Liaison Committee Member), and Muhammad Rizwan Lakhany (Liaison Committee Member) were also present.
