Minister for local bodies hint release of funds for purposed schemes of Industrial Areas

Provincial Minister for local bodies Jam Khan Shoro said that funds for purposed schemes by industrial areas will be released soon, he was talking to dinner arranged by Korangi Association of Trade &Industry (KATI). He said that development work in Karachi will be completed and Liyari Expressway will be opened for light traffic, till June this year. Shoro told that more than PKR 50 billion schemes are underway in Karachi. He said that District East and South have passed resolutions to approve garbage collection contracts.

Earlier, Patron-in-Chief KATI SM Muneer appreciated the efforts of CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah and his team in his talk. He said that expectations of business community are very high with this team. Muneer said that we want to see Karachi as a development model. President of KATI Masood Naqi briefed the minister about problems of Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) on this occasion. He said that sewerage system of KIA has been destroyed and the area is facing critical issues due to these problems. Naqi appreciated the ongoing development work in the city and congratulated Sindh government for approving development schemes for Industrial areas. He urged that time has come to reform all institutions and department on immediate basis.

On this occasion head of KATI’s standing committee on local bodies, Zubair Chhaya said that there should be special representation in local bodies for industrialists. Chhaya told the minister that many of industries are now setting up in Mehran Town; this area should be declared as industrial area as well.

Jam Khan Shoro told this gathering that illegal hydrants have been abolished form the city , only 8 are functional for those areas where there water supply infrastructure is not been in place. He said that initial cost for S3 project is increased many times, and now we are working for its approval. Minister said that more than 70pc water supplied by KWSB is “non-revenue”, billing of commercial connection has been outsourced, domestic will be soon come under the same arrangements. “Changes in the design of Malir Express way have been purposed, K4 project will be complete on its promised time” he said. He also said that 12 thousand Acres land is required for this project, 10 thousand Acres will be provided by government and 2 thousand will be acquired from private owners. One thousand acres of private land for the project has been acquired, and payments would be made soon.

On this occasion Senior Vice President of KATI Ghazanfar Ali, Vice President Umer Rehan, Navaid Bukhari, Johar Qandhari, Shujaat Ali Baig, Malik Khuda Bux, Aftab Tapal, former presidents and Members of executive committee of KATI and representatives of Industrialist and traders were also present.
