The Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP), with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO), has launched training sessions to boost cotton production among farmers and landowners in Punjab.
This initiative, part of the “RISE for Impact: FPRW in the Cotton Supply Chain Project,” focuses on innovative farming techniques and sustainable practices.* During the sessions, led by experts Mr. Shazad and Mr. Mukhtar, participants learned about the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (FPRW) and their importance in improving agricultural conditions.
These sessions aimed to introduce innovative methods to enhance cotton productivity and provide practical farming techniques, resource-saving strategies, and modern tools to improve yields and support sustainable incomes for small-scale cotton farmers and landlords’ associations.
Syed Nazar Ali, Secretary General of EFP, emphasized the need for better working conditions, stating, “Investing in our farming communities promotes responsible and ethical business practices.” Mr. Gillani, a consultant, stressed the urgency of increasing cotton productivity while lowering production costs. He highlighted key factors affecting cultivation, such as climate, soil health, and pest management.
Participants also identified challenges in accessing quality seeds and equipment. To pool resources and negotiate better prices, farmer associations were suggested, ultimately enhancing productivity and sustainability in the cotton sector. This initiative aims to secure a brighter future for Punjab’s cotton industry and its farmers.
