BYD-MMC’s ‘She Runs’ programme attracts over 500 applicants for Karachi final event

As part of Mega Motor Company’s (MMC) sponsorship of the BYD Karachi Marathon for the second consecutive year, scheduled to take place on January 3, 2027, BYD-MMC introduced ‘She Runs’, an initiative aimed at encouraging greater female participation in long-distance running through access to professional coaching, structured training and dedicated support.

In response, over 500 women applied for the programme, and 50 shortlisted candidates were invited to the final selection event held at Ramada Creek, Karachi. The event featured a 10-kilometre endurance run, warm-up and cool-down drills, fitness assessments, interviews and medical evaluations, following which 10 women were selected for the programme.

Shah Faisal Khan, Co-Founder of Platinum Fitness and a strength and conditioning coach specialising in marathon performance and rehabilitation, along with Uzma Abid, a marathon runner and running coach associated with UESCA and MatrixFit, are leading the selection and subsequent training process.

The 10 selected participants will now embark on a structured, 10-week training programme leading up to the BYD Karachi Marathon 2027, with professional guidance focused on building endurance, improving performance and preparing them for race day.

Commenting on the initiative, Anum Abdullah, Senior General Manager – HR, Admin & CSR at Mega Motor Company, said, “Pakistan has no shortage of women with the ambition and determination to pursue sport, yet access to structured training and support remains a challenge. The overwhelming response to ‘She Runs’ highlights the interest and potential. Our aim is to create opportunities for women to turn that ambition into achievement, while encouraging more women to take up running as a sport.”

Through ‘She Runs’ and its continued association with the BYD Karachi Marathon 2027, MMC is extending its commitment to movement beyond mobility, supporting healthier lifestyles, greater participation in sport and opportunities for emerging athletic talent in Pakistan.
