Sheikh Umer Rehan, President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), has urged the government and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the income tax return filing deadline by one month. He highlighted persistent technical issues and slow processing on the FBR’s IRIS portal, which have hindered many traders and industrialists from submitting their returns despite a previous 15-day extension.

Rehan noted that system freezes, data upload problems, and difficulties in generating payment challans have frustrated taxpayers. He emphasized the need for an efficient tax filing system to maintain taxpayer confidence and called for the FBR to prioritize fixing these technical shortcomings.

Additionally, he requested a waiver of late-filing fees for those affected by the IRIS system’s issues. Rehan appealed to the prime minister and finance minister for immediate action to help the business community file accurate returns.
