The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) expressed deep condolences on the recent devastating floods in Nepal and urged Pakistan to invest more in climate resilience, early warning systems, and disaster preparedness.
OICCI emphasized the human impact behind the flood statistics, stating, “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.” The organization noted that Pakistan, frequently hit by severe floods and climate-related issues, must act proactively to prepare for such disasters.
With rising temperatures and changing weather patterns, Pakistan faces growing climate risks, losing about 1% of its GDP annually due to these impacts. OICCI stressed the importance of strengthening predictive systems for various flood types and emphasized the need for comprehensive strategies to identify risks and protect vulnerable communities.
Investing in climate-resilient infrastructure and disaster-response capacity is vital as extreme weather events become more frequent. OICCI reiterated its solidarity with the people of Nepal and those affected by the floods.
