The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has achieved the highest cargo-handling volume in its 138-year history, surpassing 54.685 million tons, a milestone hailed as a clear indicator of Pakistan’s maritime progress.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the record, describing it as “a testament to the growth and resilience of Pakistan’s shipping and logistics sector.” He emphasized that ongoing reforms aim to transform Pakistan into a strong regional maritime and trade hub.
The Minister noted that modernization and expansion of port infrastructure have been accelerated, with investment, logistics improvement, and port system efficiency placed among the government’s top priorities.
He praised the Chairman of KPT, officers, and employees for their dedication and professionalism, which have led to significant improvements in operational capacity, management efficiency, and competitiveness.
Chairman Admiral Shahid Ahmed reaffirmed that efforts to further enhance Karachi Port’s competitiveness will continue, ensuring its role as a vital contributor to national trade and economic growth.
