Water insecurity is a growing environmental and economic challenge for Pakistan. Unilever Pakistan, in partnership with WWF-Pakistan, has launched a Water Stewardship Programme to enhance water security through collaborative action in Punjab. This initiative addresses water issues beyond factory limits, focusing on sustainable management to protect livelihoods and the environment.
A recent media roundtable highlighted the country’s water challenges, with experts urging that sustainable water management must become a national priority. Sohail Ali Naqvi from WWF-Pakistan emphasized the need for long-term, collective action, while Ramlah Tariq from Unilever Pakistan underscored the importance of stakeholder collaboration to address water depletion.
Since crossing the UN’s water scarcity threshold in 2010, Pakistan has remained water-scarce. The Water Stewardship Programme is part of Unilever’s broader sustainability efforts, which include initiatives for plastic circularity, waste reduction, and responsible resource management, aiming to create scalable solutions for a more resilient future.
