IGP reports successful Operation Nijat-e-Mehran against dacoits

Inspector General of Police Sindh, Jawed Alam Odho, announced that “Operation Nijat-e-Mehran” has successfully targeted armed criminal gangs in Sindh’s katcha areas, resulting in the deaths of 41 dacoits, the arrest of 123 criminals, and over 320 surrenders in the past four months. This operation has restored state authority in previously inaccessible regions and enhanced security along key trade routes.

Speaking to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce, Odho highlighted improvements in Karachi’s overall security, noting a decline in street crime. He emphasized the importance of ongoing vigilance, stakeholder feedback, and effective urban planning to manage traffic and relocation of wholesale markets out of densely populated areas.

Odho reported that the Sindh Police have intensified traffic enforcement using Safe City surveillance systems. Additionally, over 1,700 drug dealers have been arrested, highlighting the severity of narcotics as a societal threat. He cautioned against glamorizing criminals on social media, urging that they should not be portrayed as heroic figures.

Regarding land encroachments, he mentioned the formation of high-level committees to address illegal occupations and called on the Karachi Chamber of Commerce to coordinate with authorities. Lastly, he announced plans to modernize Karachi’s traffic management and improve urban mobility infrastructure.

Zubair Motiwala, Chairman of the Businessmen Group, acknowledged the improved law-and-order situation but voiced concerns about the growing drug problem affecting the youth. He urged increased efforts to combat drug suppliers and networks in the city.
