”GSK Pakistan and WWF launched a five-year freshwater resilience programme to secure safe water and restore ecosystems by 2030. This initiative includes interventions in Karachi, Lahore, Keenjhar Lake, and the Indus Delta, focusing on safe drinking water, water reuse systems, urban greening, and biodiversity monitoring.
Key outcomes from 2025 include:
– A solar-powered drinking-water filtration plant providing free water to about 1,500 people in Karachi.
– Four ablution-water reuse systems in Karachi and Lahore, benefiting urban green spaces.
– Rehabilitation of toilets and sewage systems at schools, helping 1,144 students.
– Restoration of urban green spaces for better environments.
– Installation of a groundwater recharge well in Lahore.
– A community Biodiversity Monitoring Group at Keenjhar Lake for ecosystem observation.
Erum Shakir Rahim from GSK highlighted the partnership’s potential to drive meaningful change, while Sohail Ali Naqvi from WWF emphasised the need for inclusive, multi-stakeholder approaches to water management.
