WaterAid stresses the significance of rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge

Technical Guidelines for Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for climate-resilient WASH services in Pakistan were launched at a provincial learning exchange organised by WaterAid Pakistan, in collaboration with Welthungerhilfe and AGAHE.

The event brought together government officials, development partners, and experts to promote sustainable water management amid intensifying climate pressures. Key speakers emphasised the need to integrate NbS into public planning, enhance coordination among institutions, and foster partnerships for resilient water services.

Mian Muhammad Junaid from WaterAid highlighted that NbS, like rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge, are vital for community protection and ecosystem restoration. Participants were introduced to WaterAid’s Technical Guidelines for scalable NbS approaches, with sector partners sharing their innovations and field experiences. The event concluded with a commitment to collaborate on Sustainable Development Goal 6 to ensure sustainable water and sanitation management while addressing the impacts of climate change.
