Pakistan saw a decline in mobile phone production and assembly during August 2025

Topline Pakistan Research has released a report on mobile phone production and assembly in Pakistan, highlighting a 46% month-on-month (MoM) decline in August 2025. According to the latest data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), local mobile companies manufactured or assembled 1.94 million units in August 2025. This figure represents a 30% increase year-on-year (YoY) but a 46% decrease MoM.
The YoY growth can be attributed to a low base from August 2024, when sales declined due to excessive pre-buying in June 2024 ahead of the new 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) imposed on mobile phones in the FY25 budget. Conversely, the MoM decline is largely due to consumers postponing purchases in anticipation of new phone model launches expected in the coming months (September/October). Additionally, the high sales figures in July 2025, which resulted from the release of pent-up demand after earlier supply chain disruptions, also contributed to the MoM decline.
During the first eight months of 2025 (8M2025), locally manufactured or assembled mobile phone sales totaled 19.7 million units, reflecting a 3% YoY decrease. Of these 19.7 million units, 51% (10 million units) were 2G phones, while the remaining 49% (9.7 million units) were smartphones. Notably, Pakistan met 94% of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing and assembly during this period.
The top 10 locally assembled brands in 8M2025 were VGO Tel (2.33 million units), Infinix (2.24 million units), Vivo (1.75 million units), Itel (1.53 million units), Xiaomi (1.16 million units), Tecno (1.09 million units), Samsung (1.02 million units), Q Mobile (0.77 million units), Nokia (0.72 million units), and G’Five (0.71 million units).
Looking ahead, we expect mobile phone sales to grow by 7-8% YoY over the next 12 months, supported by relatively low inflation. Additionally, brands such as Samsung and Xiaomi typically launch new smartphone models around September every year, which is likely to further boost demand in the near term. Within the listed market, Airlink Communication (AIRLINK) and Lucky Cement (LUCK) are expected to benefit from the anticipated rise in demand for their locally assembled brands, including Tecno, Xiaomi, and Samsung.ung, rank among the top 10 in Pakistan.
