Nutrition International, supported by TechnoServe, has launched the Millers for Nutrition initiative in Pakistan, aiming to enhance the nutritional quality of staple foods like wheat flour and edible oil. This global initiative seeks to reduce malnutrition by fortifying commonly consumed foods with essential micronutrients, aiming to reach 1 billion people worldwide by 2026.

In Pakistan, the initiative will empower wheat flour and edible oil millers through capacity building, provision of testing equipment and premixes, and strong partnerships. It also emphasizes celebrating industry champions and promoting women’s leadership in food fortification.

Key leaders, including Badaruddin Kakar from PFMA and Shaikh Abdul Razzaq from PVMA, expressed their commitment to fortifying edible oil and raising consumer awareness for healthier food choices. Dr. Shabina Raza, Country Director at Nutrition International, highlighted the critical need for the initiative to address micronutrient deficiencies.

The launch event in Islamabad brought together public and private sector leaders to strengthen partnerships and commit to action. Rizwan Yusufali from TechnoServe emphasized uniting stakeholders in the fight against malnutrition. Overall, the Millers for Nutrition initiative aims to improve food fortification practices in Pakistan, enhancing nutrition outcomes and operational efficiencies across the industry.
