Rafique Suleman has been elected President of the PKBC

Rafique Suleman has been elected President of the Pakistan-Kenya Business Council (PKBC) in Karachi on July 24, 2025. A prominent rice exporter, Suleman, is committed to strengthening economic ties between Pakistan and Kenya. He previously held various key positions within the rice export sector and has significantly increased Pakistan’s rice exports to Kenya.

Upon his election, Suleman emphasized the importance of trust and shared development in trade, outlining his vision to elevate bilateral trade beyond USD 1 billion. He highlighted the need to address tariff barriers and diversify trade sectors, particularly in light of Kenya’s growing tea exports to Pakistan.

During his visit to Kenya, Suleman met with various officials, including Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Trade and Investment, Ms. Regina Ombam, who pointed out the need for tariff reforms. Currently, Pakistan imposes a 46% import duty on Kenyan tea, while Kenya has a 35% duty on Pakistani rice. Both sides agreed on the urgency of harmonizing tariff policies ahead of an upcoming Joint Trade Committee meeting in September 2025.

Suleman remains committed to fostering sustainable trade partnerships that promote mutual prosperity.
