The Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, organised a vibrant event at Auditorium One on the occasion of International Dance Day. The event was attended by the President of the Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmed Shah; the Chairman of the Fine Arts Committee, Farrukh Shahab; the Chairperson of the Women Empowerment Committee, Chand Gul Shah; the Chairman of the Stage Show/Special Events Committee, Iqbal Latif; and a large number of dance enthusiasts.
Arts Council Dance Academy and different dance groups celebrated International Dance Day by performing classical, hip-hop, cultural, and filmi music. Internationally acclaimed dancer Nighat Chaudhry added brilliance to the evening with her Kathak performance, while Mani Chao, Adnan Butt, and Abdul Ghani from the Arts Council Dance Academy captivated the audience with their exceptional performances.
On the occasion, President Arts council Muhammad Ahmed Shah emphasized the therapeutic power of dance in combating modern-day depression, stating: “In today’s age of widespread depression, dance serves as an excellent form of therapy.”
He praised Nighat Chaudhry, calling her one of the country’s finest dancers and lauding her outstanding performance. He encouraged young people to follow the Arts Council’s social media pages to stay updated on cultural programs and reminded them: “The doors of the Arts Council are always open for talented young artists. Come, learn, and perform.”
Shah also announced a three-day Alumni Festival scheduled from May 9 to May 11, urging everyone to participate. Head of the Dance Academy, Mani Chao, welcomed the large audience and highlighted the event’s celebration of diverse languages and cultures. Faculty members of the Arts Council Dance Academy and students of PNCA (Pakistan National Council of the Arts) also performed.
Renowned dancer Nighat Chaudhry expressed gratitude to the Arts Council for organizing such a grand event on International Dance Day. Chairperson Empowerment Committee Chand Gul presented flowers to Nighat Chaudhry.
Abdul Ghani and his group delivered a unique dance performance reflecting Sindhi culture on “Ho Jamalo” and “Mor Tor Tilley Rana”, which was met with resounding applause.
Other performances included dynamic presentations by Mani Chao, Adnan Butt Group, Jerry, Kabir, Roheel, Arfeen, Nighat Chaudhry, Sajan, TBC, Owais, Ghani Group, Angel, Sameera, Asif, Ali Aqil, Ali (Popper), and PNCA, who wowed the audience with their energetic Balochi Leva performances and received great appreciation..
