Opposition leader and visionary politician, Khurshid Ahmed Shah has greatly emphasized on special attention on primary education even so that he proposed the establishment of ‘Primary Education Commission’. He was speaking as Chief Guest at the opening ceremony of Silver Jublee Celebrations of Hamdard University at the Bait al-Hikmah auditorium, Madinat al-Hikmah, Karachi last week. Congratulating Hamdard University for successfully completing 25 years in providing advance education to youths, he said that the primary education was the nursery of education and without strengthening it one could not put higher education on solid footings. Without knowledge education was fruitless like buffalo without milk and body without soul, he added.

Commending the efforts and struggle of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said for spreading education in the country he said that he was a fine man and great patriotic Pakistani whom Allah has given two lives – one of a martyr, who would never die, and the other in the shape of Hamdard University as he would live and never die till this University would remain on the earth. One day, by the grace of God, Hamdard University would be counted among the top 150 universities of the world, he added.

He said that he had established the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Sukkar in order to provide higher education to area people. No importance was given to health and education in the country and now issues of ‘population’ and ‘environment’ were also included in country’s problems, he lamented and added that the master key to solve all these problems was education only. Without allotting 3 percent of our GDP to education continuously for 30 years we would not be able to do some good in the world. People used to say everything about the politicians, but it was a fact that Pakistan was made by a politician, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Hamdard University by a civilian, Hakim Mohammed Said.

‘According to international standard a student must get education for 850 hours annually, but in our country village students get only 150 hours education while they constitute major part of country’s 64 percent population of youths’, he said and asserted that nation could not be able make progress in such pathetic condition of education.

Prof. Dr. Syed Shabibul Hasan, Vice Chancellor, Hamdard University while declaring the Silver Jubilee Celebrations open, said that the only purpose of Hakim Sahib for establishing the Hamdard University and schools in the outskirts of Karachi was to spread education in rural areas. Equal opportunity of education was being provided to the students of all classes at Hamdard University just according to the vision of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said.

Earlier, Registrar, Hamdard University, Professor Dr. Waliuddin while presenting a report on university’s performance said that Hamdard University was a largest university in private sector, having enrolment of 6,000 students at present whereas 26,000 students had already graduated from the university. This University, having Campuses in Karachi and Islamabad, was the pioneer of ‘Energy Engineering’ in the country, he informed and added that both Eastern Medicine and Western Medicine were being imparted in the university.

A documentary film on life and achievements of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said was shown and competitions on ‘Logo’ and ‘banner’ were also held on the occasion. The Chief Guest, Khurshid Shah gave away prizes to the winners and to the students, who participated in the arrangement of silver jubilee celebrations. Prof. Dr. Shabibul Hasan presented the shield of replica of Seal of holy Prophet (P.B.U.H.) on the occasion. Besides Prof. Dr. Hakim Abdul Hannan, former Vice Chancellor, Hamdard University; Justice (Rtd) Haziqul Khairi, guests, teachers and students in a large number attended the ceremony.
