Street crime rate falls in Karachi: IGP

Inspector General Sindh Police Amjad Javed Saleemi said that crime rate in Karachi is dropping down, security plan for the election day has been finalized. He was addressing a gathering of industrialists and traders at Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) on Monday.

On this occasion President of KATI Tariq Malik, Senior Vice President Salman Aslam, Vice President Junaid Naqi, Zubair Chhaya, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan and other also expressed their views. Prior to this President KATI Tariq Malik welcomed the IGP and appreciated the effort of Sindh police for restoring peace in the city, in his welcome address. He said that although terrorism, extortion, kidnaping, target killing and other heinous crimes have been whip out from the city but street crime still is a challenge.

IGP Sindh Amjad Javed Saleemi told the gathering that he monitors crime rates on daily bases and comfortably can say that street crimes were dropping down. He said that detection of crime is the key principle of his strategy. He told that number of criminal gangs have been apprehended during previous months and a list of absconders is being prepared to detain them on priority bases. He said that security plan for election has been finalized. For patrolling on every 5 polling station a motorbike and on every ten polling station a police van would be posted. He said that more than 1 lakh police personnel will do security duties on the polling day.

The IGP also said that a rapid response force, with the coordination of LEAs, has been established to respond any emergency situation.

Zubair Chhaya said that although Mehran Town is no more a no-go-area but land grabbing mafia is still active there in criminal activities, authorities should take steps to curb them. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, Salman Aslam, Junaid Naqi and other also appreciated the efforts and spirit of Sind police.
