President Alvi assures FPCCI of full support to resolve economic issues

The President of Pakistan, Mr Arif Alvi, has met a high-profile delegation of FPCCI and friends at the presidency and listened to their longstanding concerns on the country’s economic policies.

Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo, President FPCCI, thanked President Alvi for the warm welcome and diligently listening to business and economic issues; and their proposed solutions from FPCCI. He emphasized that FPCCI is the apex representative body of Pakistan’s business, industry, and trade communities. It should have a due say in consultative processes to make various economic policies.

Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo maintained that the federal budget should incorporate recommendations from the business community and simplify the tax system through swift and effective reforms’ process. He said that simplification of tax rates and streamlining of tax filing process would increase the number of active taxpayers and significantly increase FBR revenues.

Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo raised the issue of sustainability and employment losses in the restaurant industry. He suggested that – ensuring compliance to SOPs – restaurants should be allowed to resume dine-in services.

He also discussed issues about the pharmaceutical industry and their needs regarding access to finance and importation of hi-tech equipment, specifically during the long-drawn-out period of the corona pandemic.

Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo also expressed his concern that the retail sector has not received government support during the pandemic to prevent the job losses as it has received from governments worldwide.

Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo explained that ease of doing business and cost of doing business in Pakistan faces chronic issues and can be swiftly resolved. Companies can be facilitated if there is a will in concerned quarters. He offered FPCCI’s full support in policymaking and economic reforms.

The delegation also offered Fateha for the nephew of the president, who had passed away a day earlier due to complications from the corona.

Wide-ranging national issues, including Federal Budget, Industrialization, Renewable Energy, Hospitality Industry, Agriculture, and Documentation of the Economic, were discussed.
