Deputy Inspector General Police (DIGP) East Zone, Karach Amir Farooqui has said that police would provide industries the facility of criminal record verification of their workers while speaking to a gathering of Industrialists at Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) here on Thursday.
President of KATI Sheikh Umer Rehan, CPLC Chief Malir and Korangi Zubair Chhaya, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, Head of KATI’s Standing Committee on Law & Order Nadeem Khan, Senior Vice President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Vice President Syed Wajid Hussain, Former Presidents KATI Danish Khan, Masood Naqi and others also addressed the occasion.
The DIGP told that appointment procedure of Station House Officers (SHOs) in local police stations has made transparent through initiatives taken by IGP Sindh Kaleem Imam and Adl. IGP Gulam Nabi Memon, “and this has improved public perception of Police imminently” he added. He told that to improver police response 15 Madadgar will work under the SSU. He was of view that police has done a lot for crime prevention but more is needed to make investigation more effective to increase conviction rate and for this purpose forensic laboratories would established. He underlined the cooperation of business community for curbing crime and maintaining law and order and especially praised the role of KATI in this regard. He said that Korangi is the most peaceful and crime free district of Karachi just because of combine efforts of police and the community.
President KATI Sheikh Umer Rehan briefed the DIG regarding economic significance and law and order situation of Korangi Industrial Area. He said that KATI has established a most effective neighborhood policing system in the city, with the help of local police, “we need more manpower to make it more effective” he added. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said that if we criticize police on some issues than we should praise it for the good work. Zubair Chhaya told the DIGP that under the cover of laborers elements belong to certain miscreant groups has devised a network of extortion in Korangi Industrial Area. He said that a combine strategy is needed to break the nexus. Chhaya asked that a crime record facility should be provided to industry to check the records of their workers.
The DIG East Amir Farooqui assured that a record verification unit would be established in KATI. He further said that the time has gone when someone can shut down a city by just raising a slogan, we would not allow anyone to challenge the law. He also praised the performance of former SSP Korangi Ali Raza and current SSP Faisal Chachar for his dedication.
