KCCI welcomes PM’s financial relief package

Chairman Businessmen Group (BMG) & Former President KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli and President Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) Agha Shahab Ahmed Khan, while warmly welcoming Prime Minister’s financial relief package of around Rs1.2 trillion announced to ward off the negative impact of coronavirus, said that it was undoubtedly a very good initiative but an effective mechanism was immediately needed for implementation of this package that ensures smooth transfer of financial support to the poor and deserving segment of society including workers, labors, daily wage and handcart earners etc.

Relaxation in foreign exchange regulations

SBP has allowed all federal and provincial government departments, hospitals in public and private sectors, charitable organizations, manufacturers and commercial importers to make Import Advance Payment and Import on Open Account, without any limit, for the import of medical equipments, medicines and other ancillary items for the treatment of COVID-19.

KCCI’s Attestation Dept. to remain partially open to facilitate exporters only

Keeping in view the hardships being faced by export-oriented industries, the Attestation Department of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), which is responsible for issuing the ‘Certificate of Origin’, will remain partially open with limited staff throughout the lockdown period from 11:00AM to 2:00PM in order to facilitate the documentation requirements of the exporters.

SBP further reduces markup rates

At its last meeting on 17th March 2020, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) noted considerable uncertainty about how the Coronavirus outbreak would impact the global economy and Pakistan. In the statement issued following that meeting, the MPC “emphasized that it stood ready to take further actions if and when needed as more information becomes available on the outlook for inflation and growth.”

Karachi Port continues to operate smoothly

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has issued a statement today to clarify that lockdown in Karachi to curb the spread of Coronavirus has not impacted the operations of port and vessels are arriving and sailing as per scheduled.

Earlier, in accordance with the Government policy and the communication vide Home Department, Government of Sindh, Notification bearing No So (Jud-I)HD/8-1(04)/2020-Corona dated 22-03-2020 to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the lockdown is under implementation throughout the Province of Sindh including Karachi.
