State Department Official Visits Construction Technology Training Institute

Marta Youth, the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration Office Director for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas visited the Construction Technology Training Institute (CTTI) in Islamabad.  Supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), CTTI provides vocational and technical skills training to both Afghan refugees and Pakistanis from refugee-hosting communities.

American Embassy launches two new English access microscholarship programs

The American Embassy launched two new English Access microscholarship programs on Wednesday – one at Sir Syed Public School in Rawalpindi and another implemented by Vision Building Future at Pakistan Sweet Home.  Over 350 students will benefit from this program.

At the opening ceremony, John Hoover, the American Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, expressed the American government’s ongoing support for educational partnerships in Pakistan.

Widening twin deficits overshadow performance of the real economy

Real GDP maintained its upward trajectory, exhibiting a 13-year high growth of 5.8 percent in FY18. Benign inflationary environment and improved law and order situation boosted business sentiments, resulting in higher credit offtake especially for fixed investment. However, this improved economic growth came amid widening twin deficits, which pose challenges for sustainability of the growth momentum, noted SBP’s Third Quarterly Report on The State of Pakistan’s Economy released today.
