Minister for state of ports and shipping Chowdhry Jaffer Iqbal visits KPT

The Federal Minister for State of Ports and Shipping Chowdhry Jaffer Iqbal visited the Karachi Port Trust Head Office today to review the progress of port projects. He was taken on port round for reviewing the progress of ongoing port projects. He took special interest in the Deepwater Container Port project and witnesses the ongoing dredging work and then he was also shown the reconstructed berths 10 – 17 which also includes the newly reconstructed berths 15 – 17, the Crisis Management Cell, the South Asia Pakistan Terminals Limited and the Pakistan International container facilities. He also inspected tugs, dredgers and other flotilla crafts of KPT during his visit. Before moving ahead to Manora Island, the Minister has also witnessed oil piers of KPT and he was briefed about the ongoing liquid cargo handling by the General Manager Operations on the occasion. He was then taken and shown the KPT workshop area and the under construction Dry Dock at Manora; and thereafter he also visited the Baba & Bhit Islands to conclude his field trip.

The KPT has made arrangements for providing a complete briefing at KPT Head Office. The Minister for State Chowdhry Jaffer was given complete briefing of the ongoing and completed projects of KPT. He was also further briefed about future projects that the port plans to undertake one by one for the port expansion. He was informed about the ongoing World Bank’s EHS projects in detail.

The Minister for State Jaffer Iqbal stressed more on efficiency and speedy work progress on the occasion and issued necessary directives and overall conveyed his satisfaction on resolving problems.
