Illegal hooks, encroachments around power infrastructure severe public safety hazard: K-Electric

K-Electric (KE) reiterates that illegal hook connections and encroachments around power infrastructure is a severe public safety hazard. The power utility has also identified illegal settlements/encroachments around power infrastructure across its network to concerned authorities for immediate action.

While KE ensures strict compliance to respective safety protocols and procedures, it also appeals to the public for their own safety to maintain distance from power infrastructure including electric lines, transformer and poles.

edotco and seller agree to end acquisition process for Deodar in Pakistan

edotco Group SdnBhd (“edotco”), a subsidiary of Axiata Group Berhad (“Axiata”), today announced that they will not be moving forward with the acquisition of 13,000 towers from Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited (“PMCL”) in Pakistan.

The transaction was subject to a number of conditions and terminated due to the non-fulfilment of the conditions precedent to the SPA within the stipulated timeframe, in particular regulatory approval for the resulting change of control contemplated under the SPA.

Pakistan’s Liquid Foreign Reserves Position

The total liquid foreign reserves held by the country stood at US$16,069.9 million on 7September2018.The break-up of the foreign reserves position is as under:-

Foreign reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan: US$ 9,624.4 million

Net foreign reserves held by commercial banks : US$ 6,445.5 million

Total liquid foreign reserves             : US$ 16,069.9 million

During the week ending 07September2018, SBP’s reserves decreased by US$261 million to US$9,624 million, due to external debt servicing and other official payments.

National Complementary feeding assessment study launched

The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination (MoNHSR&C), Government of Pakistan launched the National Complementary Feeding Assessment (NCFA), study of practices around feeding children, today in Islamabad. The study was conducted with financial support of the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) and the technical support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

US Ambassador’s Fund to Award 200 New Grants

Islamabad, September 13, 2018 — On September 13, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) publically launched the next round of the Ambassador’s Fund Grant Program with a ceremony announcing the first eleven grant recipients. During the current five-year cycle, running from 2017-2022, this program will award approximately 200 grants in support of high impact efforts by Pakistani organizations working to improve the economic and social conditions of the people of Pakistan.
